Firm Overview

(217) 379-4311

The firm that is now known as Martensen, Niemann, & Galvin, LLC traces its roots back to 1869, when Milton H. Cloud moved to Paxton to begin his law practice.  Over the years Cloud, a noted title examiner, held many positions, including Paxton City Attorney, Paxton Clerk, Paxton Mayor, Master of Chancery, and County Judge.  In the early 1900s he joined with F.M. Thompson.  Together, Cloud and Thompson made a name for themselves representing the Big 4 and Lyman and Wall Drainage districts, with one case making it all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court.

After Cloud's passing, Delbert E. (“D.E.”) Martensen joined F.M. Thompson.  D.E. was well known for his knowledge of Illinois Drainage law, and was on the drafting committee for the Illinois Drainage Act of 1956, which is still in force today.  After Thompson's passing, D.E. Martensen practiced alone until being joined by his son, Robert E. Martensen (“Bob”) in 1961.

In 1977, Jerry Niemann joined Bob, and then partner Harold Andrew in the firm of Martensen, Andrew & Niemann.   The firm practiced under that name until Harold moved out of the area.

In 2017, Holly Galvin joined the firm as an associate attorney, and in 2022, Holly became partner. In the same year, Robert E. Martensen and Jerry Niemann officially retired.

In 2023, the firm became Martensen, Niemann, & Galvin, LLC.  Robert Martensen and Jerry Niemann are assisting the firm in occasional projects and serving as mentors and guides to the other attorneys in the firm.

Our firm has continued to exist for nearly 150 years because we treat our clients, opposing parties and attorneys, and our staff with respect, fairness, and honesty.
